Club Group Lessons for Fall/Winter

Updated: Sep 17

Fall/Winter group pickleball lessons are the perfect way for Clubs to engage existing members – and attract new ones.

Background on Club Group Lessons for Fall/Winter

For the past three seasons, Canadian Duo Pickleball has run more group sessions for Clubs in the fall/winter than over the summer. Last winter (January to March), we ran over 30 group lessons and instructed over 200 players. Why is that? Here are our thoughts and observations:

-          Over the summer, people are focused on playing – and on other non-pickleball activities. Scheduling group sessions isn’t a priority for members or Clubs

-          By the fall, people have played lots, including to the point of looking for a change – lessons provide an attractive/needed alternative to just playing more pickleball. It’s a way to break out of then end-of-summer rut many players find themselves in.

-          By the new year, people are starting to look ahead to the spring – and getting their games in shape. They are also looking for fun activities to keep them active and stimulated. It is a great time to attract new Club members and re-engage existing ones

Why Fall/Winter Group Lessons are Good for Clubs

1.      Clubs often make the mistake of thinking they know everybody who is/might be interested in learning/joining pickleball. What we’ve discovered is that this is just plain wrong. Marketing and running intro sessions is a great way to tap the immense (and often hidden) interest in pickleball.

2.      They are a great service to existing members. Lots of players want to improve their game. It’s really helpful to members when the Club organizes lessons for doing that. It’s goodwill and good PR for the Club.

Why Group Lessons Are A Good Way to Learn Pickleball

People learn better when they are playing. While private or semi-private lessons are good for teaching strokes, they’re not so good for teaching the game. With group sessions (and multiple instructors), everyone gets a chance to learn – and play!

Canadian Duo Pickleball Most Popular Club Lessons

The two most popular fall/winter group lessons are Introduction to Pickleball and Fundamentals of Competitive Pickleball. These two group sessions are appropriate for a very high percentage of Club members and potential members (beginner to 3.5). Where there is a particular interest, we are happy to customize a group session to a specific need.

The Canadian Duo Pickleball Approach

We have been instructing Club groups now for three years. Our approach is called N3Duo. It is a practical approach for teaching the game of pickleball and working on competitive fundamentals. There are two instructors (‘Duo’) in every session. Being a couple has proven to be clearly helpful for attracting and coaching both women and men. There are a maximum of eight students per session. This way we can teach, coach, play, demonstrate and encourage. Feedback is always fantastic. People tell us they always know students/members who we have instructed.

Pricing and Marketing Your Club Group Lessons

Lesson fees are $30 per person depending on court charges. Minimum six players per lesson. Maximum eight. It is easy for us to organize multiple lessons per location. Lessons are ninety minutes long.

With our website and extensive social media presence, we can help your Club get the word out and attract interest to your sessions.
